The AMAC – Association Mouvement d'Art Contemporain – is the symbol of the cultural will of the municipality.
The AMAC has essentially a didactic goal which is concretised by exhibitions with many contemporary artists, many kinds of sensibilities…

Everyone can initiate his eyes into a certain quality of contemporary art outside the official current.
Conferences and courses of engraving and guided tours complete the approach.
So the A.M.A.C. takes part each day in the cultural evolution - and in a certain way - in the future of Auvergne. The many works of contemporary art given by the creators constitute for the town of Chamalières a important cultural present who is worthy of appear in our heritage.
The Ministry for Culture and various regional or national official organizations are interested more and more in its achievements. In the same way advertisers and gifts of companies make it possible for the AMAC to advance better and more quickly. Finally the media contribute - by the regional and international daily newspapers or by the specialized press - to make known the existence of Association with the creators collectors critical of art and with all those which is interested by the promotion of the visual arts.
Since its creation, in 1984, the A.M.A.C. showed in its gallery more than 130 exhibitions of which some were carried out in coproduction with various cultural and artistic stablishments.
For the exhibitions of the gallery it’s not less than 486 artists who could give their works painted or carved to a public particularly satisfied and interested. The number of 86 500 entries can attest that. A catalogue is edited after each event. It’s forming an edition of more than 110 works.
The collection is essentially made by gifts of artists who exposed at the A.M.A.C. (more than 900 works: paintings-sculptures-watercolours-drawings- tapestries-photographs-prints large size...) but also by gifts from other associations and from other workshops.
Main part ot this collection can be found at the A.M.A.C. Triennial Area and you can see others in various places (colleges, Chamber of Commerce and Industry...).
But the finest action remains the World Print and Original Engraving Triennial that Slobo created with the support of the municipality and professionals of the graphic art. This became an important event and have acquired an international fame very quickly.
